A Youth Firesetting Intervention Program
Special Curious Kids Class

Facts Regarding Curious Kids:
• Children set over 100,000 fires every year
• Children make up 24% of all fire deaths
• $200 million in property is destroyed in fires attributed to children playing with fire
• Children playing with fire set 45% of the fires that kill children under 5
• Children playing with fire do so in bedrooms, closets, and under beds where there are a lot of things that catch fire
• Children having a history of playing with fire are not often given proper guidance and supervision


Mission Statement
Partnerships for Youth at Risk provide intervention, diversion, education & prevention to youth and their families
experiencing problems with firesetting and other high risk activities.

Special Curious Kids Class
• For Families with children ages 3 to 10
• For Parents who have caught their young child playing with matches and or lighters
• For Parents with children ages 3 and 4 a special parenting class on dealing with their young children who are
curious about fire (children ages 3 to 4 do not attend this class, parents only. Children 5 – 10 do attend class)
• Age appropriate educational materials are taught to the children
• Parent Education Group meets separately at the same time as the children’s class
